Scooped-Out Fieldhouse
Fall 2023 | Professor Armel Sagbohan (Future Firm)
Location: Roseland, IL
Project Description
Chicago is widely known as the birthplace of the fieldhouse, a facility that holds multiple programs throughout the seasons focusing on improving people's wellness and health. The requirements consist of a standard indoor gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, offices, etc. Given a site in Roseland, IL, the goal for this project is to design a fieldhouse that can contribute a healthy lifestyle to the community as well as relive the neighborhood that used to be busy and lively.
Thesis Statement
The project borrows energy from skateboarding to motivate and highlight the programs within the fieldhouse. A skatepark/multipurpose park is placed in the center to function as the main energy provider for surrounding programs. Uninterrupted views across the building are prioritized to encourage interactions between users and create a meaningful connection between humans. Light is filtered through scooped-out openings that act as a hybrid of windows and skylights.
